In December of 2011, I was sitting on my couch watching football at my friend, Chris' house when I noticed a distinct numbness up and down the left side of my body, The next morning, I put my running shoes on and realized I couldn't actually get my left leg off the ground. I was in shock so I immediately went to my doctor. After numerous tests, she called me in to her office to ask me very personal questions about my family history. By this time, my parents had come down to Charleston to be with me. This was all happening so fast. I had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was able to see the brain MRI and was stunned by the numerous lesions that had covered my brain.

My Story

I graduated from Clemson University in 1999 where my numerous accomplishments in Track and Field helped me get a full scholarship. I was a two-time New York State Championship Track and Field awardee with a 4 minute 10 second one mile record so I knew the discipline it took to succeed in whatever you put your mind to.

I’ve been very successful and happy working in the restaurant industry worldwide which financed my desire to travel and see other countries.  I spent the next few years backpacking  and exploring the world. I was in Europe for the Millennium celebration and worked my way through Poland and Germany. My travels included Argentina, a train from London, England to Russia; the Trans-Siberian railroad to Mongolia, China, down to Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and finally, Thailand. I’M 35 now and feel very fortunate to have had these experiences, especially with the onset of MS.

My journeys taught me so much about myself and etched memories in my head that will be there forever.  I loved being overseas and meeting new people with different ideas viewing the world from a different perspective.

In an instant, my life changed. I am having trouble with normal  activities now and can’t do my job.  My coordination is damaged; numbness affecting my ability to do my tasks. It is a debilitating experience with symptoms surfacing such as extreme fatigue, numbness, muscle weakness and brain fog. My doctors have not given me much hope.

The Plan

…So, it’s plan B in terms of my battle. I’d already begun changing my diet upon my diagnosis, gluten and dairy free. With  the help and support of CCNF, it’s time to become more militant in my ways and  incorporate the discipline and faith it took to accomplish the goals of my past  and bring back the quality of my life!

CCNF will incorporate a regimen directed by an MD expert in the reversal of MS symptoms with nutrition. The Foundation will also provide a Lifestyle and Stress-Management Coach, resources for support, nutrition training  and daily interaction to assist me on this lonely difficult path. I expect to succeed!

I am asking the Community to help me fund this aggressive path to health And check back here to follow my progress!! Please take this road with me!

With much affection and appreciation!
